Latest Updates from Our Project:

T-Minus 24 Hours
8 months ago – Sun, Nov 30, 2025 at 07:34:53 AM

As we enter the final 24 hours of this campaign, we wanted to highlight the amazing things on the horizon.

We're closing in on $57k

And that means unlocking another stretch goal. We're excited to provide a materials upgrade to one of our favorite add-ons: The Skip Combat Battle Map.

The original foldable cardboard version of the Skip Combat Battle Map with text that has an arrow and "Upgrade!" pointing to a new version; same graphics, but made of rollable neoprene.

If we can raise just under $2,000 more, every Skip Battle Map will be UPGRADED! Whether it's the one you get automatically with your Null Apotheosis pledge, or one you've added to your pledge with an add-on, everything will be upgraded to the new neoprene.

A Growing Community

Over 666 backers!? We're blown away by not only how much has been pledged, but now many of you there are. And what's most exciting for us is where we see that community continuing to grow and respond to what we're making outside the Kickstarter page. Discussion on social media and in our Discord have been fantastic, including hearing from several folks that are already running Mörk Sol at their tables!

Conlin was inspired, and decided to make a Sci-fi Shell Corporation Generator. While this tool isn't only for Mörk Sol, it's the perfect way to create the dozens of here-today, gone-tomorrow corpos that operate as the shifting mass of Conglomerate holdings in the Span.

Give it a try yourself: https://perchance.org/scifi-shell-corp

Community Highlight: Plus One & Hinterlight

This is a two-part highlight for not only an amazing new Kickstarter, but also the folks that help make so many games possible.

Banner image for Hinterlight, a Gothic Worldbuilding Ritual & TTRPG. Sow the seeds of future adventure as you tell the tale of your demise!

First, we want to shout out to our friends at Plus One EXP. The crew at POE genuinely care about not only the games they help create, but the folks they work with. They were our hosts for PaxU, helping to make the con an amazing experience and put our games in front of so many more people. We even had an author signing event for Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO!

Second, we want to shout out to Hinterlight, a game that ignites our love of world building and collaborative story telling. This game is a gothic worldbuilding ritual where you play as the recently deceased, using a deck of cards to revisit your memories and create a world from the events surrounding your deaths! It sounds so delightfully macabre.

GM Screen Unlocked!
8 months ago – Fri, Nov 28, 2025 at 02:00:05 PM

We reached $50k!!!

You know that that means. Time to see that GM Screen!

A mockup of the Mörk Sol GM screen, featuring Andrew Beauman artwork of the Null Star.

This screen not only features amazing artwork from our own Andrew Beauman, but will have all of the necessary DRs, items, encounter tables, Cargo mechanics, NPC generators, and other at-a-glance needs for GMs printed on the reverse side.

This new item is available as a $15 add-on for everyone, but is also automatically included with all Null Apotheosis tiers.

600 Backers!

We also crossed a huge milestone with 600 total backers. This means we're that much closer to unlocking our second backer Stretch Goal. At 777 backers, we'll be adding a full suite of 3D Assets to the creator asset bundle we already unlocked at 470.

A lot of our art process for Mörk Sol makes use of 3D renders from blender which are then combined with photo bashing and traditional illustration techniques to create unique pieces of art. For example, the standard edition book cover...

Blender mockups of the three iconic skips.
Blender mockup of a space station entrance.

We took these two sets of models, slapped some gradient filters on them, did a little custom brushwork, and BOOM!

The Mörk Sol standard edition cover, featuring those same blender artifacts with additional processing.

If we can reach 777 backers, we'll be releasing a ton of these 3D artifacts that we're using to create the book so that other creators can follow in our thrusters trails.

Community Highlight: Astracordis

A render of the proposed softcover, A5 core rulebook for Astracordis

If you crave more sci-fi, there's another Kickstarter that is ending soon that you won't want to miss. Astracordis is a fascinating roll-under, variable dice system where the difficulty of the task determines the size of the die you roll. You're always trying to roll equal to or under a crew member's stat to succeed, making d12's an extremely challenging proposition.

But that's not what makes Astracordis stand out to us. It's retrofuturistic aesthetic, inspired by works such as Star Trek, Alien, and Mobile Suit Gundam, is to die for. And the game's focus on non-combat approaches to space survival is so well thought out. There's even a computer terminal UI you use to play the game! The visual style of Access Terminal evokes old science fiction interfaces, aiming to convey the idea that this is the application used by characters to connect to the network and manage their operations aboard spacecraft. We're a sucker for diegetic gameplay, and the Access Terminal absolutely crushes it.

Go check out the Kickstarter page just to soak in the incredible visuals of that application. And if it wins you over like it did us, back it before it's gone (ONLY 13 HOURS LEFT!!!!!!)

The End Approaches
8 months ago – Tue, Nov 25, 2025 at 03:16:19 PM

We're entering the final 5 days of our campaign! It's been a wild ride so far, and we're excited to see where this last burn takes us.

With US Thanksgiving approaching, we wanted to express our deepest thanks for all the support you've given us thus far. Enjoy the holiday, the food, and the rest! And as part of that thanks, here's a quick dive into where the rules text for Mörk Sol currently stands, and how we'll be handling it after the campaign ends.

Latest Playtest Rules

With the release of Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO at PaxU, we've pushed a final update to the public playtest document. These changes include...

  • The latest version of Skip Combat, which removed the old Movement Phase and baked movement into the various Crew Actions. This creates the truly seamless, apples-to-apples experience we wanted between Skip and Skav combat.
  • The introduction of Origins, which are optional character building elements that further augment your Skavs to align with specific science fiction archetypes. We only included one in the public playtest: The Paper-thin Station Rat. This was previously a class, but once we figured out what we wanted Origins to be, we realized that class's story better fit the mechanical niche of an Origin.
  • Added the Untenured Tecnician. This class is the spurned intellectual; a scientist seeking knowledge above all else, but now discarded from the bureaucracies that make formal research possible in the Span. It replaces the Paper-thin Station Rat as the 6th class available for Skavs in the playtest.

This is part of our long-term strategy with Mörk Sol development. Rather than having multiple versions of the rules out there that we constantly need to update, we now have two clear places where the rules live:

The Public Playtest

The document linked above, which we are going to be locking down into a stable-state. While that means it won't always be the latest and greatest, its current form is close enough to our vision that it is still an accurate portrayal of the game for those that missed out on the campaign or who are looking to see what it's like before buying.

Frame:ZERO

This is the version of the game we'll be focused on updating from here on out. Our plan is to release a digital copy of Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO in January for free to everyone that backed the campaign. That PDF will be updated periodically as we finish content and work it into the low-art, high-vibes format that is Frame:ZERO. It's our way of including you in the development process, not just so you can see how close we are getting to completion, but also so you can be part of the ongoing playtesting experience that has fueled Mörk Sol thus far.

So if you didn't manage to pick up a copy in person at Pax U, fear not! We'll be getting Frame:ZERO into your inboxes in the new year.

Community Highlight: Hellspawn

The Kickstarter campaign banner image for Hellspaw, a hellish standalone game that brings hell to as many Mörk Borg compatible systems & settings as possible. A mockup of the bloody red book with the face of a tortured hell denizen floats beside chaotic text that reads, "Obey. Burn. Repeat. The Infernal RPG breaking into the Dying Worlds."

Speaking of THE END, we wanted to highlight another Borg-y offering from some folks that have been working hard to bring about a hellish remix of every Borg-compatible setting. HELLSPAWN is an infernal stand-alone hack of Mörk Borg where you play as Hellspawn: creatures bound by contract and loosed upon the Dying Worlds to hunt the Malefactors, those who escaped Hell’s grip and now threaten the stability of everything. You must seal these walking wounds in the cosmic machinery, often through fire and violence.

We immediately thought of how interesting it would be to see these Hellspawn in Mörk Sol's Span. In the setting information for Null, we say, "what truly lies in Null is unknown - a realm of antimatter, a universe below the one we know, hell." So when Hellspawn enter the Span, are they one of the Scourge-warped? Or do they stand opposed to the forces of entropy, visiting long enough to balance their cosmic ledgers while staving off Null's all-consuming nature?

Sounds like a fun campaign!

Double Stetch Goal!!!
8 months ago – Sat, Nov 22, 2025 at 11:15:09 AM

We hit not one but TWO stretch goals since the last update! Let's see what those were, and read all the way to the bottom to check out the next batch of stretch goals.

$42,000 stretch goal unlocked: Creator Pay Increase +50%

We've increased the payout both to the internal creative team and our partners. This is a big deal that we can be extremely grateful for as we enter the season of Thanksgiving. While we love creating for its own sake, it's hard work. That work is made easier when it helps keep the lights on and our bellies full.

470 Backers!

Not only did we hit $42k, but we also hit our first backer based stretch goal!

Updated Backer Stretch Goals graphic showing the 470 goal being met.

That means that shortly after the campaign ends, we'll be release a huge package of 2D Assets for anyone that wants to create Mörk Sol content the same way we do. Faction icons, font guidance, textures, spot art, asset manipulation guidance; basically all of the things we use internally to create the art assets you see. Here's a preview of our Brand Manifest - just one of the many resources that will be part of this drop.

An in-progress version of the Brand Manifest, a document compiling colors, gradiants, fonts, and other visual guidance for creating Mörk Sol content.
The current version of our Brand Manifest. Will be updated and released after the campaign ends!

This is by no means a complete version. We're still adding stuff to our library every day. Once we have it in a good spot, we'll release it for everyone. Backer or not, folks will be able to make Combatible with Mörk Sol content!

Fresh Actual Play Episodes

If you want to see more of Mörk Sol in action, we have several actual-plays that have released

No Quest For The Wicked: CODE BREAK

Speaking of our creative partners, the team at No Quest for the Wicked have released the second episode of their Mörk Sol mini-campaign CODE BREAK. This series shows how Null's influence can corrupt even the most ethereal elements of our galaxy to terrifying effect. We've been blown away by what the team created. Please enjoy!

Tales Does Tales

Things are heating up for the Tuesday cast of Tales of Initiative. This campaign sees the worlds of D&D combined with the rules of Mörk Sol. As our crew of mercenaries continues to hunt down a nautiloid ship, they find a derelict space station, and potentially more than they bargained for.

If all goes according to plan, we'll be going live with the next episode on Tuesday, November 25th on the Tales of Initiative Twitch channel.

Andrew's Secret

All paid members of the Infinite Citadel Patreon get access to an audio-only actual play we recorded. Matt GMs for fellow Mörk Sol creator Andrew Beauman and three other members of the incredible Tales of Initiative cast. This one shot highlights the darkness mechanics, xenobiology, and space combat systems of Mörk Sol, while also providing some behind-the-scenes lore on our development process.

New Stretch Goals!

With all of the revealed stretch goals hit, it's time to further decode the Commwave Transmission and see what the future holds.

A cropped version of the Stretch Goal graphic. $42,000 is unlocked. $50k GM Screen. $57k Upgrade Skip Battle Map to Neoprene. $69k Comissions UNKNOWN for a full-art spread.

The next set of stretch goals are....

  • $50k - GM Screen. We showed a teaser of this, but now you can make it a reality. If we can reach $50,000 in pledges, a Mörk Sol GM Screen will be added to the list of add-ons, and automatically included with all Null Apotheosis pledges.
  • $57k - Neoprene Upgrade. The Skip Combat Battle Map is already a high quality item. But it could be better. At $57k, the existing add-on will be upgraded to be neoprene instead of foldable cardboard.
  • $69k - Full Art Spread By ???. Looks like JSTR's decryption was a little faulty. Keep pushing that number higher to see which amazing guest artist will be joining the list of contributors to Mörk Sol!

Mörk Sol $40K
8 months ago – Thu, Nov 20, 2025 at 01:16:52 PM

$40k Funded!!!

While it's not a stretch-goal, this is still a fantastic milestone for the project. Considering all the other number-based references we had in our stretch goals, we didn't want this one to go entirely unmarked. Here's some fresh Mörk Sol content for those wanting to add some bigger firepower to the threats chasing down your Skavs.

Art of the CoreSec Marine, an advanced and terrifying military unit deployed by the Authority against things it wishes to be exterminated. A heavily armored marine uses a chainsaw-blade weapon to skewer a scourge-warped enemy, holding it aloft with one arm as their other hand holds a powerful ranged weapon. Rules text follows in the post text.
