Latest Updates from Our Project:

The Backerkit has Launched!
5 months ago – Mon, Mar 02, 2026 at 08:37:03 AM

LATE_PLEDGES::[closed]
BACKERKIT::[starting]

This morning we closed late pledges and launched the Backerkit "smoke test". That means !47 backers will have already received emails from Backerkit as of this update. Check those spam folders to ensure you haven't missed anything!

This is the final stage before we unleash the pledge manager to everyone. This initial batch of backers will ensure quality and completeness in the survey and add-ons systems. This is our first time doing a project this big with so many SKUs, so we want to make sure that we get it all right before sending the surveys out to all 814 of you!

If you want to see a full description of things you can expect in the Backerkit, scroll to the bottom of this update. But first, we want to share the most exciting thing you can expect to find...

Mörk Sol FrameZERO in a combination of ascii-art and industrial font.

Everyone will have immediate access to the latest version of Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO after completing your survey.

If you don't know, Frame:ZERO is our art-lite "bare bones" version of Mörk Sol. It represents the latest and greatest version of the game, laid out in a highly readable but still evocative format. Eventually this will become a freely available version of the game, similar to Mörk Borg's barebones edition

But right now it is something we want to entrust to you as a way to start playing the game! Whether or not you're familiar with the playtest document we had available as a Google Doc, this latest PDF will have a ton of new content. Several changes and additions have been made to bring it in line with our latest vision of Mörk Sol. We hope you not only enjoy it at your tables, but tell us about it!Your feedback is essential to creating the final version of this game.

If you're interested in everything new & different in this version of Mörk Sol (i.e. you picked up a copy at PaxU or have been reading the public playtest), then here's a full change-log at the end of this update.

Frame:ZERO Changelog

A quick list of changes (old rules that have been modified) and additions (entirely new content) you can find in the latest Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO PDF.

Changes

  • Fixed some typos regarding die sizes in tables and abilities (some mechanics referenced Toughness instead of Brawn).
  • HUGE CARGO SYSTEM UPDATE: Each cargo tag now takes up a single cargo slot. During playtesting we realized that the cargo bays weren't being used. Rarely were enough pieces of named cargo being rewarded to crews that even small cargo bays were at risk of filling up. There was also a lot of confusion surrounding how cargo tags and named cargo items interacted. So now every tag is a piece of cargo. When you get single tags, such as during Replenishment, you will get to determine what exactly that cargo is (your [Food] tag might be barrels of protein slop or crates of nutrient bars). This means named cargo is special in that it can grant multiple cargo tags while only occupying a single cargo slot. This is a big change since it impacts many skip creation and module rules, but we're excited to update this system into a state that should minimize confusion, tell a better story, and emphasize both scarcity and success in the Span!
  • Clarified that the cost of installing a skip module only pertains to salvaged modules. So if you buy a module from scratch, it's assumed to be installed. If you found one and hauled it somewhere to get it installed, you need to roll the Cargo Die to pay for installation.
  • Renamed "Flak Cannon" to "Flak Launcher" to help differentiate it from the Fragmentation Cannon. These kinetic weapons are similar enough we could see folks mixing them up without better naming.
  • The DRs for Skip Combat have changed. Attacking and Defending against enemies in Mid Range is now DR12. Close and Far ranges apply +/-2DR as appropriate; e.g. defending against an attack from Far is DR10, but attacking that enemy back is DR14. Energy Weapons retain their advantage, but the phrasing was altered such that they are treated as "always being in Close Range". So attacks with Energy weapons are always DR10, and defense against Energy weapons are always DR14.
  • Enemy skips now only have access to a specific subset of Crew Actions: Fire!; Fly Casually; Skip the Pattern; and Ramming Speed. We did this to emphasize the capability of a more diverse crew (like the PCs), keep skip combat simpler, and allow some enemies to be more powerful/deadly based on their own unique actions.
  • The Take Cover crew action is simplified to only apply to gaining cover. There is a new Lose the Lock crew action for shifting the target lock of targeted weapons onto other objects in space.
  • Changed the order of Bridge Module System Damage effects.
  • Buffed the Dogfighter's Flip and Burn crew action to grant a blanket -2DR on success, with -4DR against enemies in Close range.
  • Rejuv has had several changes to emphasize the brutality of the system along with stressing Cargo Die more. It now costs more (d6 instead of d4), but each syringe has a variable number of doses (d4). Using it also comes with a drawback, reducing max HP by 1 each time you use it in a day beyond the first use.
  • Increased the cost of Verge (d4 to d6). This keeps it in line with the full cycle of ability amplifying drugs (see Additions).
  • A few Nullmarks were tweaked for balance. Death now only deals 2d8 instead of 2d12, and A Storm of the Mind deals double damage to you on a failure instead of just increasing the die for Nullmark damage.
  • Defense Fumbles now cause you to roll on the Life Support table in addition to its other bad effects. Attack Fumbles have a possibility of causing the same (new entry in the d6 table).

Additions

  • More lore regarding comms tech in The Span to help clarify how Skavs and Skips interact, both nearby and galaxy-wide.
  • Added a mechanical definition to the [Radioactive] Cargo Tag: Fumbles near [Radioactive] Cargo cause Radiation Sickness.
  • Skip Modules and Skip Weapons now always decrement the Cargo Die. These are the most sizeble and impactful upgrades a crew can strive to obtain. Since larger Cargo Die sizes can be "stickier" (less likely to roll a 1 and decrement), we wanted there to be more ways that they are forced to become smaller.
  • Added the Outlaw Spaceman and Scarred Operative Classes.
  • Added three more Origins: Xeno-spliced, Limited Liability Corpse, and Null-stained Voyager. Note: Xeno-spliced was part of the first release of Frame:ZERO at PaxU, but was never part of the public playtest document.
  • Added two new melee weapons: a Boarding Hook that helps skavs looking to board enemy skips deal damage while pulling off their daring maneuvers; and a Grav Fist for wealthy skavs that really want to pack a punch. The former is part of our efforts to make boarding actions a more clearly defined and encouraged design space while still leaving that space open to interpretations & rulings at your table. The latter is filling a niche for bigger damage, bigger cost melee weapons.
  • Added a new Technical Weapon: Miniature Cluster Rockets. These small-and-smart projectiles are some elite weapons tech that can reliably damage or destroy multiple targets with no risk of friendly fire. This provides another "big spender", aspirational weapon for skavs to look forward to as their cargo die increases.
  • Added Frag Grenades to the list of weapons on page 62 (Special & Grenades). Frag Grenades were previously referenced via starting equipment tables, but no stats were provided.
  • Several new Chemical Fixes: Algae Liquor; PARA; MedC; Anima; Navis; and Amp. These add some additional utility options, including a different method of healing along with new drugs to provide Verge-like bonuses to the other abilities.
  • Ten New Nullbleeds! You can now roll a d20 for both Nullmarks and Nullbleeds!
Backerkit: Crowdfunded projects you can trust. Wordmark on a yellow banner background.

Things to Expect in the Backerkit

As complex as the campaign ended up being for us, it should be pretty straightforward for you. Here's a quick rundown of what you can expect to find when you open your email from Backerkit.

  1. You are able to upgrade your pledge tier. So if you backed at a lower tier and are no more confident in exactly what you want, you can upgrade and get the bundled savings of tiers instead of relying on add-ons.
  2. The survey will NOT collect shipping or taxes. Those will be charged at a later date once we are actually fulfilling your rewards. This ensures we have the best shipping/tariffs numbers. There is a question in the survey to ensure you are aware of this.
  3. Everyone has 3 questions to answer as part of your pledge: why did you back this; what should our next project be; and would you like to join our newsletter? We ask these questions because this is the best chance for us to get feedback from you - our supporters! - on how we should be doing things. The newsletter also allows us to keep in touch with you without relying on any specific platform. We will never spam your inbox! (average of once-a-month newsletters)
  4. Null Apotheosis Backers can choose which cover they want with their pledge! During the campaign there was some confusion on which version of the book the all-in pledge would receive. We've also had some folks say they straight up prefer the standard cover. We want our all-in backers to be excited about what you're getting, so we added the ability to customize the core book as part of your survey. There is no additional cost or change in price regardless of which cover you get.
  5. Those who backed in the first 48 hours should have a Skorcher Patch automatically added to your cart.*
  6. Those who backed our Temperamental Upgrades Kickstarter should have a CyAOS Patch automatically added to your cart.*

* These additional rewards are above and beyond anything else you might order. So if you backed at the Null Apotheosis tier within the first 48 hours, you should have two Skorcher Patches: one from the early backer incentive; and one from your reward tier. Please reach out if things don't look right.

Pledge Manager... SOON
5 months ago – Fri, Feb 13, 2026 at 09:42:14 AM

It's been a busy start to the year and there's a lot to cover. Here's a quick summary of everything we're going to discuss in this update:

  • BackerKit Pledge Manager is nearly complete! Surveys should be hitting inboxes in March.
  • Initial surveys will focus on add-ons, pledge levels, and some general information questions. Shipping & Taxes will happen much later.
  • Late pledges are still open and will remain open until March 1st.
  • We're going to be running events at Owl Con in Houston, TX, Feb 21 & 22.
  • We've made some solid progress on Mörk Sol content, and we explain how we convey that progress in our "loading bar diagram", which will become a fixture of our future updates.
  • Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO will include many of these updates and will be delivered as part of the BackerKit survey.
  • There are some fantastic projects you should support. Check out Community Highlights!

That's basically everything you need to know! But if you have any questions (and you wanna see our thoughts on those Community Highlights), keep reading.

The Pledge Manager

We've spent the last few weeks diving in to BackerKit and figuring out how to make this a fantastic, easy experience. We're on our last round of questions / fixes, but it's very close.

But even if we got the answers to those questions today, we want to hold off on launching the pledge manager for a few reasons:

  1. We want to get our most recent changes into Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO, our bare-bones version of Mörk Sol, so that when you complete your survey, you can start playing with the latest & greatest content.
  2. We're going to be running some Mörk Sol games at Owl Con. If those folks end up loving the game, we'd want them to have a chance at late pledges.
  3. We will be closing late pledges on March 1st, and launching the survey shortly after.

Please note that when those surveys launch, they will allow you to change your pledge level, select more add-ons (especially those that unlocked from Stretch Goals), and confirm that you have all the bonus incentives (first-48, Temp Upgrades) that you should.

IT WILL NOT HAVE SHIPPING & TAXES.

This is so we can postpone those costs until we are much closer to fulfillment and have the best information possible.

Mörk Sol Content Tracker

When we were running our Temperamental Upgrades Kickstarter, we started publishing a "loading bar" chart to show what was progressing and how close we were to completing the project. With Mörk Sol, there is so much more content already written. But that doesn't mean there isn't a long way to go, so rather than having nebulous "we wrote more" in every update over the next several months, we want to give y'all a clear idea of what is being worked on and how quickly.

We showed a (zoomed out) version of this in the last update, but here's some better details and explanations as to what you're looking at!

The Mörk Sol progress table for The Setting and Skips sections of the book.

From top to bottom, we've broken down the entire book into chapters and sections, each with their own loading bar. Chapters are the big blocks of color (pale yellow for The Setting and green for Skips), and each line is a Section within that chapter of roughly aligned text/rules.

From left to right, we've broken out the tasks that need to happen in order to get these pieces of material completed. Text is just that - the written words. These are done in a simple plaintext manuscript along with any notes that are relevant for the next phase, Art & Layout, which represents the work it takes to turn plain text into a laid out, gorgeous page/spread/etc. And finally there's Edits & QC, which are all of the final checks (consistency edits, rules changes, playtesting feedback, "did we use more than one shade of black" or other printing concerns, etc.) that make sure the quality of both text and visuals are where they need to be.

If a cell is that light green color (you can see a lot of them in the text columns of that image), then that portion is "done". That doesn't mean it will never be revisited or tweaked, but it means it's in a state that we are confident moving away from it and focusing efforts elsewhere. As an example, we recently did an overhaul of the DRs for Skip Combat, but you'll noticed that the Combat section of Skips is simply green (and not entirely finished). That's because the work we did there wasn't really "new"; it was making what existed better, but it wasn't the same lift as entirely new content. There are specific pieces of Skip Combat (like boarding actions) that we are reserving for that last cell of progress.

As a note, we're primarily working on Text right now, but you might see some Art & Layout progress happen even if a Text section is not finished. Some of this work can be done in parallel, although Edits & QC will always have to wait for the other parts to be done.

The Mörk Sol progress table for Skavs, Tables, and Dangers.

Now we have some new colors! Those orange-ish cells represent new progress that has been made since we last showed you this chart. Instead of you needing to look from updated to update to see what's changed, we'll always highlight the changes. And then the next time you see this chart, those orange cells will be green.

Here you can see we've spent a lot of focus on expanding the Classes up to the full 8 that we want to have in the core book. We've also been fleshing out the remaining two Origins, along with other player options like services in the Span (stuff that isn't equipment that still costs you) and Chemical Fixes.

The Mörk Sol progress table for Ray of Light from Synthetic Dawn and Zines

We've also begun transforming our basic notes for The Being Aboard the Gamma Blackstar into a proper manuscript. Right now Zines are simply their own "chapter" (even though they will be separate products) with a section for each. If we feel the need to dive in on a more granular level in the future, we'll expand those into their own charts.

Hopefully that gives you an idea of how much progress we've made since the start of the year along with how we'll convey progress throughout the rest of the campaign. Please ask us questions in the comments, or join our Discord to keep the conversation going!

Also, a reminder that the version of Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO you'll be receiving when the Pledge Manager is sent out will include a lot of the updates we've made. Frame:ZERO will eventually serve as our "bare bones edition" of the game, but it's also a way for us to refine the rules with your help! We look forward to hearing about your sessions at home.

Also, if you want to get more granular updates along with content as-it-happens, consider joining our Patreon! Every post includes content for free members, and it's the best place to see our process unfold as it happens. This week we posted an early preview of the newest two classes for Mörk Sol: the Outlaw Spaceman and the Scarred Operative.

Community Highlights

ZiMo is a celebration of indie creators and their incredible projects. We have three that we want to bring to your attention; long-time friends and co-creators in the TTRPG scene who we think you'd love.

The Crypt Has Opened

The Crypt has Opened in bloody, pulp-comic font. An Imposition Dice System by Jeffrey N Baker.

The Crypt Has Opened is an incredible TTRPG that has been in development for 6 years! While it's a bit big to be considered a zine, the art style and mechanical vibe are too perfect for us to not highlight it. The Crypt Has Opened is a thoroughly play-tested, exciting post-apocalypse romp of a game that hits a sweet-spot between tactical crunch and narrative freedom. We love Jeff's pulp comic art style. So much so that our own Andrew Beauman is part of the creative team!

Forbidden Snacks: High Tea

WARNING: DO NOT EAT THESE DICE! I know they are tempting, but seriously, no matter how well crafted Raven & Riddle dice are, they do not magically become edible.

The Forbidden Snacks: High Tea Kickstarter is a sequel to the amazing Forbidden Snacks: Charcuterie campaign. Several of us in the Citadel have these dice, and we can vouch for how (delicious) amazing they look. With a new version of Good Society coming soon, what better time to secure some amazingly Bridgerton-esque polyhedral math rocks for your gaming!

Heir of Swords

Now for an actual zine. Heir of Swords by Yanni Panagiotopoulos (who you might know from his big Gamefound campaign Ambition) is a solo game that uses tarot cards and spreads to tell an amazing story. Your quest will actually walk you through the spread of cards, revealing the challenges ahead of you. This is a solo game experience that really emphasizes the gameplay, hitting that beautiful combination of classic board games and narrative story gaming. If you like games like The Zone or Bog God, then this is likely a perfect match for your tastes.

Happy New Year!
7 months ago – Wed, Jan 07, 2026 at 08:23:58 AM

A gif of three men driving in a car, happily exclaiming "We are back baby".

We hope your December was as restful and relaxing as ours was. Time to hit the ground running!

Or, apropos of Mörk Sol, flying!

Late Pledges + Frame:ZERO + Creator Kit

As promised we took December off, which means that much of our Mörk Sol progress has been focused on smaller, business-related things and not content. That doesn't mean we don't have some fun surprises for you (see below if you're craving new Mörk Sol goodies), but it does mean that the PDF of Frame:ZERO and the Creator Kit are not ready for y'all.

Which is, come to find out, actually for the best. Not only are late pledges still open, but the pledge-over-time payments are still happening. We've seen other creators struggle with pledge manager release timelines specifically because of pledge-over-time. Those final payments should be happening in February, which is likely when we will close late pledges as well.

Note: Late pledges count for creator kit unlocks, so there will be 3D assets in the kit!

The plan is to use January to not only get back into creating book content, but to get the Backerkit setup properly. This Kickstarter far surpasses the scale we've operated at before, and we want to make sure we do this well. That means taking the time to learn these tools and ensure you have a pleasant experience the whole way through.

TL;DR - Expect Frame:ZERO PDFs, the Creator Kit, and Backerkit information to arrive in late January / early February.

In the mean time...

Progress Tracking Begins!

For those that backed out Temperamental Upgrades zine, you'll be familiar with this format of progress tracking. Over the break we went through the entirety of Frame:ZERO and our draft content to figure out the total book contents. Here's a visual representation of those contents along with what's already been done:

A progress tracking chart of Mörk Sol book content. The books chapters are divided into sub-headings, each with progress in the "Text" columns.

We're going to dive into this chart and explain exactly what it means in a future update.

Mörk Sol Content on IC Patreon

Part of creating something as big as Mörk Sol is exploring the design space and following inspiration as it calls. Practically this means that we end up creating a LOT of material that might never be printed in the final book. Rather than have these cool bits sit in a shared drive that never see play, we thought these would make excellent pieces of content for the Infinite Citadel Patreon!

This accomplishes two things:

1 - More Mörk Sol! (And Other Games)

Part of what makes creating these games so fun is hearing from folks already playing them. It's why we make our play-test rules public early on, so the game can truly be tested and find folks that are excited about it.

But we know those public docs have their place, and they aren't meant to constantly expand over time. So instead we use the Patreon to provide more content for those that are already enjoying the games ahead of their official releases. If you already have Mörk Sol (or any of our other games) at your table, then you're going to be getting steady releases of content to help expand on the play-test (and preview what's to come in the final book(s)).

The first post went live today: what if the Protomolocule was in Mörk Sol?!

A warbling, glitch transmission of protomolocule data is unreadable beneath pixelated text, "INCOMING TRANSMISSION".

2 - Ensures Consistent, Scalable Operations

Patreon funds aren't about funding the creation of Mörk Sol. Let's be clear, the book is happening and we are safeguarding the investment you've entrusted with us.

Instead, Patreon is something that helps us keep the lights on and continue to build this co-op of ours from Dream into Reality. It's about all of the parts of Infinite Citadel that exist apart from Mörk Sol while also helping to make this game better. Listing dozens of small bits of content on Itch or the Infinite Citadel Store is certainly one way this could go, but we don't see reliable, predictable income there.

This feels like a better way to do it for both Creator and Player: we can publish tons of fun stuff without the overhead of managing dozens of separate product listings; and you can enjoy the bleeding edge of our games' development from a single, straightforward source, while also helping us build our business and keep it running!

Hopefully this makes sense!

As always, feel free to reach out in the comments or on our Discord.

Community Highlight: Hope Springs Eternal

The Kickstarter banner image for Hope Springs Eternal. Daggerheart Compatible and Human Made. A horned humanoid crouches with strange alchemical devices protruding from their back. A small goblinoid conducts a mystic ritual. In the background, explorers hike across rough terrain while a massive, horned beast walks past carrying an entire town on the mountain that sits on its back.

Hope Springs Eternal is a HUGE collection of brand new Daggerheart content! Each of its 5 campaign frames, spanning over 120 pages of material, include detailed locations, landmarks, settlements, NPCs, factions, rumors, adversaries, loot... EVERYTHING you'd need to run an amazing Daggerheart campaign.

We're a huge fan of the creators that are a part of this project, which is entering it's final 24 hours of funding! The team has been working hard to create a wide array of options, from the Ever Rime's frozen landscapes populated by gigantic magic-consuming beasts, to the gritty dystopian mega-tower of Gutterpunk Rhapsody. The book really does have something for everyone.

Thank you, Spaceman

The campaign is DONE!

Three people dancing exuberantly and without care, from The Office.

When the final buzzer sounded and the confetti burst, we had...

762 Backers pledging a total of $62,602.

The whole team at Infinite Citadel, along with our actual play partners at Many Sided Media & No Quest for the Wicked, and our incredible video editor & social media partner Zach (@TalesFromTheUnknown), are so grateful for the support you've shown this project. We're excited to fully realize this game and get more content into your hands.

That said, it's a long road ahead. Part of the Infinite Citadel ethos is Quality Over Crunch: we make great stuff, but that takes time and energy. So we will be taking December off.

This doesn't mean no work is happening. It means we are going to be less present here on Kickstarter and our other social media channels. We'll be going wherever inspiration leads us instead of feeling the pressure of timeliness and having a "marketing focus". If you start to miss us, we're always in the IC Discord.

You will hear from us officially in January, which is when we'll be returning in earnest with the promised Mörk Sol Frame:ZERO PDFs for all our backers, along with all sorts of juicy information about what the future for Mörk Sol (and Infinite Citadel) looks like.

Until then...

Late Pledges Available

Continue sharing the campaign! Late pledges are open and continue to count towards our Stretch Goals!

Rest

That means you too! As we enter a new season full of holidays, gatherings, and celebrations, we aren't the only ones who need to rest up and prepare for a new year. Take time, find joy, play games!

Again, thank you so much for supporting Mörk Sol! This is building so much more than a book, and we're excited to bring you along for the ride. <3

Just 12 hours left - and some fun announcements!
8 months ago – Sun, Nov 30, 2025 at 08:01:11 PM

Hello skavs! We're entering the final hours so we're giving you another update - this time with some announcements on art commissions! We've got a stacked line-up of artists we're excited to work with and a little change to our next stretch goal.

Originally we wanted the $69k stretch goal to be Johan Nohr, one of the creators of Mörk Borg and Cy_borg, but we got too excited and decided to just go ahead and get him on the book, regardless of hitting the stretch goal. Instead, if we get to that goal, we're going to find another incredible artist. We've already got a couple in mind and we're reaching out to concept and character artists from some of our favorite sci-fi games, shows, and movies. We don't quite know who that artist will be yet, but if we the $69k mark, we will be commission someone very cool.

Along those same lines, here is the line-up of artists we're definitely going to be working with on Mörk Sol:

We've got an amazing group of Borg folk and some of our friends that are incredible artists!

We can't wait to start bringing you all the writing, art, and other great work we have coming up soon. Thank you all for joining us on this journey and for all the great stuff we have planned for Mörk Sol!
